Chronic Pelvic Pain

Chronic pelvic pain is pain that has been present for 6 months or more. Chronic pelvic pain can severely affect a patient’s quality of life and can be a challenge for treating providers. A systematic and thorough evaluation is the best approach. There is a many gynecologic and non-gynecologic conditions that can cause a patient to suffer from chronic pelvic pain. It is important to assess for bowel, urinary, and musculoskeletal disorders that can contribute to a patient’s pelvic pain.

Once your physician has evaluated for possible causes of your pain a treatment plan can be made. These treatments may include physical therapy, medications that change the sensitivity of the nerves(neuromodulation), hormonal therapy, injections, or referral to another specialist.
